Warrior Bush(Apophyllum anomalum)
Also known as Broom bush, Currant bush | |
Warrior bush is one of the strangest plants I've come across out here. Rarely more than a small bush, it occasionally develops into a small tree like the specimen at left which is the largest I've come across at about 4 metres high. When it is flowering, it attracts clouds of Caper White butterflies which looks strange for a plant with no foliage to speak of. |

Warrior bush timber is surprisingly dense and close grained with a very fine medullary ray. I have only worked the timber green and I suspect it would be extremely hard once fully dry. Any shrinkage or cracking during drying was minimal. The timber turns nicely, sands well and takes a high finish - pity it's such a bland colour! |
